Tree of Dreams by starwoodarts Tree of Dreams by starwoodarts
This started out as a totally epic painting... but went downhill from there. I know, the leaves of the tree totally fail here. I lost my vision halfway through there. but the rest I'm okay with, I suppose. My biggest painting yet.

Watercolor on cold press fabriano artistico paper, 16"x20"

what are you worried about? drop the inhibitions, don't fret over leaves and how they look to anyone else. work big...really big and you'll lose the self doubt and your inhibitions.

The leaves aren't bad, it flows well with the rest of the image, don't be so harsh on yourself.

I am going to draw this five times. Once I have drawn it five times, I still won't be any good at watercolor.
Hats off to you, madam.

I think the leaves are the best part of all! It's like everything is made up of a billowing fluid, especially the leaves. They look like clouds of paint in water. Very organic. I think the only parts that fall short are the blue sky to the lower right and the roots. They're the only parts that don't look as "flowing" as the rest.

I like it. It seems simple, and everything fits together so well. Especially the slight blend of colors above the top of the tree.

First I saw the awesome, beautiful picture. Than I saw your comment and I thought 'ARE YOU FRICKING KIDDING?!' This is gorgeous, the leaves do not 'fail', and I LOVE THIS.

You should really change the artist comment so that it's a little less negative. I think you're detracting from the effect of your own painting, which I might add, is quite good.

i love this piece. so much so that it inspired a drawing of mine to the shape of the trunk of your tree of dreams. i love how it bends, how elegant it looks, while still evoking a sense of strength and solidarity. i don't feel as though this piece is missing anything at all.

p.s. the drawing is one of my family tree, with 4 bird silhouettes representing my my wife, myself, and my two sons.

If there is fail here then it must be from your original vision because I really like this! This has a really attractive stylized look to it. The lines in the sky radiating from the sun and moon are absolutely awesome! And the shape of the tree presents a sense of motion and liveliness that practically dances off the page. I am going to have to vote this a success from my point of view. Nice work!

I find it helps to let the finished painting sit out of sight for a few days before you judge it "not up to snuff." Sometimes when you come back to it, the vision in your head and the vision on the paper separates enough that you can enjoy the result much better. Often you are even pleasantly surprised! I think your painting is beautiful. I conveys emotion and I like the subject matter and color harmony.

I don't know that I've seen any of your other work, but I absolutely love paintings like this! Putting more definition into the leaves of the tree would have taken away from the overall aesthetic nature of the painting...never doubt yourself just because something doesn't come out exactly as you expect it to.

you should never say anything negative about your own work.. you never you what people will (or won't) see! I thought the leaves were beautiful, that they resembled both leaves and clouds in an awesome way! I was disappointed to see you caption was so negative. take yourself more seriously!!
